Bannister blanks Orioles, avoid 4 game sweep

by @ 11:34 pm. Filed under 2008 Royals

Brian Bannister, in the face of baseball adversity, pitched one of the better games in his career.  Facing a 14 game losing streak to the Orioles, and a three game losing skid, it seemed almost impossible for the Royals to beat this Baltimore team.  But all Brian Bannister did today was pitch, and pitch well.

He went 8 rock solid innings, only giving up 2 hits, and allowing NO runs.  It was a thing of beauty.  He walked 2 batters, and struck out 5.  He was really hot today.  It was just what the Royals needed, a chance.

The offense, again had a very productive day, with 11 hits, and 4 runs.  The 11 hits is good, that means they are seeing the ball well, but the run production from those 11 hits is still lower than the coaching staff would like to see.

Let’s not concentrate on that today, as we won a much needed game, and there was plenty of positives to talk about instead.  The RBI’s (4) came from a place that has been silent for qiute some time now…the heart of the lineup.  Teahen, Guillen, Gordon, and Butler all drove a run home today.

This snaps a 3 game losing streak, and jump starts this offense for the next series against Detroit, who they had had great success with so far this season.  Is another sweep in the future for this club?  It would be just what the doctor ordered.
