The Angels showed again today why they are the leaders in the American League West (a game in front of Oakland), by beating the Royals again today by a score of 5-3. Not even Brian Bannister, on a full nights sleep in his own bed could stop the bats of the Angels.
The Royals amounted three runs in the first 3 innings, but that would be all they would get, as Bannister continued to get hit around. Hit around for a total of 13 hits, 5 earned runs, and only striking out 3. This was not what we have become used to seeing from him this season. It was a bit out of sorts for him. I hope that this is the one game that every pitcher has every year that they wish they could get back, that way it would be in the past and out of his system.
The Royals had the lead in this one early in the game, and ended up knocking out the Angels starter, Adenhart, with two outs left in the 5th inning. Everything seemed to be going well, and the Royals way, until the bullpen entered. The Angels bullpen proceeded to pitch a shut out the rest of the game, and leaving the Royals with those 3 early runs to deal with, period. The relievers for LA only gave up 2 hits after that.
For whatever reason, the LA offense came alive after that pitching change, scoring 5 runs before this one was over, and getting the victory here in Kansas City. This drops the club to 4 games shy of .500 (14-18), and leaves only tomorrow for the Royals to try to save the series, and get at least one win.
