The Royals lost the first game of this long series with the Blue Jays, in Toronto. This is an unfortunate continuance of the previous 4-game affair with the Boston Red Sox, getting swept. Greinke was the losing pitcher, seeing his record go to 5-2, and ERA slip a bit to 2.82. Fifth straight lose in as many games, and a dark cloud is starting to form over this team, they just need to put together some wins, in a little streak, to shake this funk.
Zack Greinke put out 5 rough innings, giving up 9 Hits, 6 Earned Runs, only striking out 2 over those shakey innings. The bullpen stopped the bleeding, and combined only for 1 Hit, and 1 Run.
The offense ran into another buzz-saw, today, in Roy Halladay, who pitched a complete game 4 Hit, 1 Run affair. Nothing could be done against this guy today. The offense came from a still hot Jose Guillen, and managed to knock in one run in the 1st inning. But that was all they could push across home plate today.
The Toronto bullpen got the day off today, Halladay pitched a complete game, and handed the Royals their fifth straight lose, taking their record to 21-27, and puts them at 5.5 behind the American League Central leading Chicago White Sox, and only one run ahead of the Detroit Tigers in the basement.
