Royals lose game one to LA Angels

by @ 10:06 am. Filed under 2008 Royals

The Royals met the still undefeatedErvin Santana, and found out quick why.  He has complete command of the strike zone, and more often than not, found it.  Santana pitched a complete game, 4 hit, shut out today against these hungry Royals, winning it 0-4.  There isn’t a lot you can do if you run into a pitcher like this.  Praying usually gets you no where, and just going to bat at the plate, swinging or not, usually gets you out.

Tomko pitched as well (if not a little better) through 7 innings of play, giving up only 2 hits, striking out 7.  However, that was not enough, and the bullpen entered and gave up 4 runs before the end of this one.

This was not the way the club wanted to start this 10 game home stand.  Not even seeing their families, and having some home cooking could do anything today.  Maybe a good nights sleep in their own beds will give them some rest, and turn this around, again.

Their record slips to 14-17, and they are 2.5 games behind division leading Minnesota Twins.  This puts them in a tie for third with the Cleveland Indians. One game ahead of the Detroit Tigers, and the basement.
